International literature on poverty has considered three major interrogations: How to define poverty? Who are the poor? What are the causes of poverty? The present paper surveys how these questions have been answered and how these answers shape the picture of poverty in Thailand. A last section looks at the policy prescriptions made by these analyses for reducing poverty.
